Kopački rit Nature Park, also called the European Amazon, is situated in the central part of the Danube floodplain, between two rivers, the Drava and the Danube. The Park was declared a Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO. The natural resources of this area enable you to discover the rich fauna, from small birds to large wild animals, like deer.
This natural park is perfect for fans of birdwatching. One can observe waterfowl species there. There are over 300 species of birds in Kopacki rit as well.
The abundance of fish in this park also attracts a large number of sport anglers.

Traveling to Kopački Rit...
On the way to Kopacki rit, we passed through a small village called Bilje.
Something about this town captured us. It was so serene and peaceful, without the usual hustle and bustle of big cities. The air was different there, it felt so soothing and calm. People are slow-paced here. They know when to take a break and this is the thing we can learn from them. This is a perfect place to experience, especially when you have spent the last few days on travelling and adventuring hectically.
For those who are eager to visit Kopački Rit, there is a picturesque bicycle path from Osijek. Also we, as a group of adventurous young people, have decided to choose that way. One can fully experience the stillness of the road early in the morning, that's why we set off on the journey at 6am. In the halfway we took a break near the lake. One can barely imagine a better place to drink a sip of water after exhausting ride. Our next stop was in Bilje, a charming little village. After a few minutes of resting there, our destination was reached. We could finally experience the beauty of Kopački Rit...
...but we couldn't avoid stopping in front a beautiful sunflowers field.
